1K Subscribers, a Fujifilm Giveaway, and What’s Next for Cal Takes Photos

Reaching 1,000 subscribers feels like a huge milestone not just because of the number, but because of what it represents. When I started Cal Takes Photos, I had no idea where it would go. It began as a simple way to share my thoughts on photography, travel, and my love for the Fujifilm system. But over time, it’s grown into something much more a real community of people who care about creating and learning together.

The Giveaway

To celebrate hitting 1K, I wanted to do something that gives back to the people who’ve supported me. So, I’ve teamed up with Open Glass Studio and Ulanzi to give away two incredible prizes:

  • Open Glass Studio Ergonomic Grip for the Fujifilm X100V/VI
  • Ulanzi AB01 38L Outdoor Camera Backpack

These are both products I use personally — the grip has been on my X100VI since day one, and the Ulanzi backpack is my go-to for any photography trip. They’re not just accessories; they’re tools that make photography more enjoyable, whether you’re travelling light or hiking through the hills.

Inside the video, I talk about how to enter the giveaway (it’s really simple), and also share what’s next for the channel because this milestone isn’t the end goal, it’s just the beginning.

Channel Update: What’s Coming Next

Over the past few months, I’ve learned more about YouTube, photography, and storytelling than I ever expected. With every upload, I’ve started to understand what works, what doesn’t, and how to make each video feel more like me.

Here’s a quick look at what’s ahead:

1. More Fujifilm-focused content.

Expect deeper dives into film simulations, street photography setups, and behind-the-scenes looks at how I approach shoots. I’ll be taking the X100VI everywhere — from city walks to mountain trails — to show what this camera can really do.

2. More storytelling and travel.

I want my videos to feel like a journey rather than a tutorial. You’ll see more location-based videos, especially in places that inspire me to shoot — coastal towns, forests, and the quiet corners that make great photos happen.

3. Collaborations and creator conversations.

I’ve got plans to sit down with other photographers and creators, starting with some conversations already in the works. These videos will be more podcast-style — real discussions about creativity, inspiration, and the realities of making content online.

4. Community and connection.

This channel has always been about sharing the process, not just the results. Whether it’s a Fujifilm setup guide, a travel diary, or just thoughts about creativity, I want to keep building a space where we can all learn from each other.

A Huge Thank You

Every view, comment, and subscriber genuinely matters. You’ve made this journey feel worthwhile, and this giveaway is my way of giving something back.

If you haven’t already, you can watch the giveaway video here: youtu.be/Tgrt2BVoGms
